Occupational health is important at every stage of the work circle, from recruitment to retirement. In the global realization that employees costs are much more than the staff salaries and other related costs, the need to control human capital depreciation and man-hour loss has become so important in realization of organizational set goals and objectives. Our Occupational health programme creates a harmony in the unforeseen strife that hitherto would occur between employers and employees. Within this product we offer the following:
Health Risk Assessment:
It is essential that the employer identifies all the significant hazards to his employees in the work environment. No working environment is completely safe. If there are no physical hazards there may be psychological ones, such as stress. A hazard is defined as the potential of a substance, a process or a situation to cause harm. A risk, however, is the probability of that harm occurring. We may be exposed to potentially dangerous situations on a regular basis, but because we approach them in a careful way the risk is minimal.
The Risk Assessment is a formal record, carried out by an individual who has been trained and has experience in this field. This process will recognize the risks, evaluate them and put in place measures to control or avoid them.
Part of this assessment process may involve Occupational Health doctors or nurses, who can carry out regular medical assessments to ensure the control procedures within the workplace are adequate and the employees' health is not being affected. This may take the form of a simple consultation or a more sophisticated medical test.
A comprehensive Occupational Health Service can cost as little a 1% of a company's payroll costs per year. The savings in terms of reduced sickness absence, lower staff turnover, fewer accidents or claims against the company and improved staff morale, can be far more. Many Occupational Health initiatives are measurable.
Pre-employment Assessments:
To ensure that an individual is appropriate for a particular role, it is important to complete a pre employment assessment procedure which can take the form of a clinical questionnaire or a full consultation and medical examination. When a potential employee unfortunately has a disability such an examination is essential in ascertaining his fitness level at the time of employment in relation to the position he is being employed. Where there is a risk of a potential employee being exposed to a harmful substance or physical hazard this examination acts as a baseline for further in-service testing. This assessment is also useful in calculating workmen compensation scheme and possibly retirement entitlement in line with to OSHA policy. Application of this programme demonstrates a professional and pro-active approach to recruitment.
In-service Medical and Health Surveillance:
Having accomplished identification of significant hazards within your workplace from your Risk Assessments, Health Surveillance may be required. This could be a clinical questionnaire sent to your employees at risk and reviewed by an Occupational Health nurse who does the comprehensive Job Hazard Analysis (JHA). It may involve a more detailed medical examination and a series of tests carried out on a regular basis. Some positions require the employee to achieve a legal level of fitness and be assessed on a regular basis examples are drivers, those who work with radioactive substance etc. Even office workers do not escape. If they use computers on a regular basis they will require regular eye tests and training.
Executive Periodic Medicheck:
Senior members of staff are particularly valuable to an organization. The loss of a key employee due to ill health may result in the loss of valuable business opportunities or contracts that have taken years to develop. For this class of people, we have designed a Periodic Medical Check (PMC) for them which are carried out quarterly followed by an advisory service with an end of year Health Performance Report (HPR). Within this framework, the health parameter of the recipient is reported and with this you can at ease do a three years Health Performance Comparison (HPC) and know how good you are doing and the possible things to cut down on.
Vaccination Programme:
In this global new phase of medical practice where the drift from curative in to Preventive medicine has become a strong content in meeting our Millennium Development Goals (MDG), emphasis has been placed on the need to get inoculated against any form of preventable disease or infection. Research has proven that it is cheaper and safer to prevent infections than treating them. It is on this note our Vaccination unit took its root to stand by our numerous clients to prevent all preventable diseases through health enlightenment and continuous vaccination services at the shortest possible time. Knowing the peculiarities of some of our clients with very busy and demanding career, we have made provisions to take the services to them in their offices at no extra cost.
Foreign travels come with their own danger and hazards. And our Occupational Health officials are available with the latest information with regards to pre-travels vaccination. We give precautionary training to our clients and administer vaccines where necessary.
Executive Stress Management:
This is a Preventive Health product designed as health literacy programme for our numerous clients. It is a quarterly training programme aimed at bringing to our clients the necessary information needed for effective stress management in tune with their respective work features.
HSE defines stress as the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressures or other types of demand placed on them. There is a clear distinction between pressure, which can create a ‘buzz’ and be a motivating factor, and stress, which can occur when this pressure becomes excessive.
